Now that I knew the thickness of the shims I needed, I ordered them from Fowler Parts.
Fowler's Triumph Model Selection page
The early model Daytona 675 is
(To VIN 381274).
In addition to the shims, I made a list of parts I wanted to replace when I replaced the engine and ordered them together.
[Order contents]
- Several types of shims
- Various cooling water hoses
- Intake manifold
- Vacuum hoses around the throttle
- SST (Special wrench for engine mounts and swingarms)
- Other small items
So the shipping cost was £65, the product cost was about £332, and the total was about £400.
The parts cost has increased slightly since I ordered in February, and the exchange rate at the time was 1 £ = 163.3 yen, but now it's about 181 yen, so it's a double hit to the wallet.
Well, I'm happy about the 20% VAT exemption...
Example) DAYTONA 675 (to VIN 381274) - Cylinder Head & Valves
page
Here are shims for adjusting valve clearance
£6.43 each, VAT included
This is from the order history screen.
As you can see above, the unit price is excluding tax.
The price in the parts list divided by 1.2 is the purchase price.
(VAT is 20%)
[Summary of the amounts so far]
Last order was about 77,000 yen.
This time it was about 73,000 yen.
Engine purchase cost 44,000 yen
Other parts such as the starter motor, engine cleaning chemicals and brushes, measuring tools purchased for this purpose, compression gauges, valve spring compressors, and other special tools...
Total of about 100,000 yen
Adding it all up...
294,000 yen. (Looking into the distance)
It probably would have cost about half that if it was just the upper part.
On the other hand, if I were to replace all the bearings inside the engine, in other words do a "full overhaul", it would probably cost an additional 100,000 yen.
In any case, I have to get the engine working no matter what!!!
This Daytona 675 is an early model from 2006, but I'm glad that parts are still available.
Looking at the Fowler parts list, it seems like most parts are still available.
There are no racing kit parts (mufflers or circuit engine parts) left, but I'm happy that even after more than 16 years since it was manufactured, I can still buy normal engine parts, as well as wheels and exterior parts.
(But it's ridiculously expensive so I won't buy it.)
If my wife plans to ride this bike for a long time, she'll want to get a spare fuel pump and throttle body. (It's endless)
I wonder if he'll get distracted by other models (lol)
I've been thinking about various things, but first I'm going to do the overhaul of the used engine in front of me, then the replacement, and then the overhaul of the engine of my wife's car.
[Fowlers Parts Online Shopping Review]
1. First, create an account.
2. Select the model and put the necessary parts in the cart.
3. Check out → Have the shipping calculated. (Response within 1 day)
4. The payment amount including shipping is shown in pounds, so if you're OK with it, proceed to payment.
5. Payment is only by credit card (VISA, MasterCard, JCB)
6. After ordering, they will contact you frequently about the stock situation, attach an invoice, and inform you of the shipping date.
[Notes]
- You cannot add or change the quantity after payment, so choose carefully.
- The parts list is shown including tax, so the actual product price is the amount divided by 1.2.
・Shipping costs depend on the weight and size of the box, but it's around 55-65 pounds (about 10,000 to 12,000 yen) for packing and small items.
・WEBIKE will also order Triumph parts (delivery time is about 1.5 months), so use them wisely while considering shipping costs and prices.
・When you receive the parts, you will almost certainly be charged customs duties and fees. (Around 2,500 yen!?)
That's how it feels.
Once they arrive, I'll resume work.
However, it's a bit of a tricky time (summer vacation!?) so it might take a while.
In the meantime, I'll be doing other work and maintenance.
[Additional Note]
From ordering to receiving.
August 3rd: Add to cart and wait for reply about shipping costs
Same day: About 6 hours later, I receive an email informing me of the shipping cost decision and notification.
Same day: Complete the payment with credit card.
August 4th-5th: Notification of what Fowler has in stock and what they don't (backordered items).
Other than that, there were some fun emails (lol). Things like notifications about backorders and invoices.
August 8th: Notification that it had been shipped.
August 9th: Notification of the tracking number from the delivery company UPS.
(Apparently you can't track your package unless you create a UPS account.)
Apparently it arrived on August 14th...!?
That's how it felt.
